BMW 5 Series 2017 - Present
Summary
As one of the most wanted saloons on the market, you would expect the latest generation of the 5 Series to be full of high-end technology and luxurious trimmings and it does not disappoint in either department. Everything from the key (housing a miniature touchscreen) upwards is designed to impress. With a longer wheelbase than the previous incarnation, there is plenty of room for driver and passengers alike. The cavernous boot is also ten litres larger than in the previous model and there are plenty of storage spaces throughout. The idrive infotainment is controlled by a nifty central binnacle or touchscreen, depending on your preference; it is also the first car ever to have wireless Apple Car Play. The most popular variant on sale in Ireland has been the 520d and it is easy to see why. With an impressive fuel economy figure just shy of 60 miles per gallon and a reasonable 270 euro per annum road tax bill. The cabin is well sound-proofed and insulated and the auto gearbox arguably the best on the Irish market.
