Summary
It is hard to believe that the Megane has been around now for over twenty years but it shows no signs of ageing based on this the fourth generation. It is longer and lower than the previous model, giving it a sportier profile that makes it one of the most eye-catching hatchbacks around. The longer dimensions also mean more space inside with plenty of head and legroom for occupants and a class leading 438 litres of space in the boot. There is also a decent level of standard equipment that includes air conditioning, cruise control, LED running lights, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It is quite an enjoyable car to drive with a smooth power delivery and a grippy feel going into corners. There is a choice of 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 or 1.6 litre diesel engine with the latter variant finding particular favour with Irish buyers thanks to its claimed economy figure of over 70 miles per gallon.
